About Harry
I am currently a law student and formerly a humanities mentor to History GCSE students, in addition to utilizing my foundational knowledge in history at GCSE, A-level and my Sixth Form EPQ ,a 6,000 word dissertation on a subject of our choice. Further to this, in University, I specialize in modern and political history as well as philosophy, underpinned by my skills developed in religious studies and English Literature.
History in general, ancient and modern is a topic of essential interest to me, and it would be just as rewarding for me to be able to use my experience and qualifications so far to support other history students on their journey.

I am primarily able to support students develop not just the knowledge, but the skillset, outlook and perspective needed for GCSE and A-level/equivalent level examinations. I have clear understanding of not just the topics in depth, but more essentially, the quality of analysis, scrutiny, quality of opinions and inferences, as well as exam structure and format that is expected for higher grade boundaries.
As a tutor, my concern is getting students to engage with resources and academic materials, and encourage them to take initiative in uncovering historical theories, opinions and perspectives that are informed. This is not something that is necessarily taught, but developed and understood through engagement with historical materials, and understanding chains of effect, factors of causation, adequate analysis, and the nature of historical research itself.
I utilize two types of teaching methods; firstly an in-depth engagement with source material as well as historical resources, which is the main content provided by schools, but often only touched at a surface level. Schools often rush content and an opportunity for student to truly engage with and scrutinize source material is invaluable. It's important, to really get a grasp of what different sources of opinions, propaganda, journalism and academic opinion can reveal. Secondly, I emphasize and support students in attempting past papers as well as reviewing them, which is the most effective and efficient form of revision, especially when it comes to deploying skills necessary for examination.
