About Tom
Been playing guitar for around 10 years and have gigged all over Sheffield, Leeds and further afield. Just finished a degree in Jazz Guitar at Leeds College of Music and now living in Sheffield. Play all styles of music and willing to learn a new style with a student if I'm not super competent with it eg - Heavy Metal

I would begin my teaching by conducting a short interview with my student asking them about what their musical life consists of so far eg- what kind of music they listen to, if they have any previous musical experience and what they would like to achieve with their guitar lessons. From then on I would plan batch of lessons that would lead to them progress towards their goals. I believe that instrumental lessons should cover all aspects of music including the usual - technique, scales, playing tunes/duets etc but also include composition, improvisation, music theory and notation reading, aural work and singing etc because from experience the more holistic your musical and instrumental knowledge is then the more fulfilling it is. However, if a particular student does just want to eg- be able shred blues guitar and nothing else then I would be against doing that.
