About Alaina

I’m Alaina, a Vancouver-based interior designer with a diploma in interior design and 15 years of experience working in AutoCAD and SketchUp. I work freelance with AutoCAD, producing and revising drawings for real projects, so what I teach comes from what’s used in practice, not just the textbook.

I remember how overwhelming these programs feel at first: dozens of toolbars and commands, and no idea where to begin. My approach is to cut through that and teach you the 20% of tools you’ll use 80% of the time, in plain language, with plenty of patience. No question is too basic.

Never opened AutoCAD or SketchUp? That’s exactly where we’ll start.

I teach beginners how to turn ideas into real drawings and 3D models, one step at a time. Each lesson builds on the last, so you’re never thrown into the deep end.

What you’ll learn:

AutoCAD basics: setting up a drawing, lines, layers, dimensions, and drawing a floor plan to scale
SketchUp: turning a 2D plan into a 3D room, adding walls, doors, windows and furniture, and adding materials
Interior design fundamentals: space planning, furniture layout, clearances, reading drawings, and presenting your ideas

How lessons work:

We start with a short chat about your goals: a school course, a career change, a home renovation, or just curiosity
I show you a technique, then you try it yourself while I guide you
We work on a real project so the skills stick
You leave each lesson with a short practice exercise

Who it’s for: complete beginners, interior design and architecture students who need help keeping up, DIY renovators, and anyone who wants to read and create floor plans with confidence.

Lessons are online by screen share.
