About Alistair
Hi, I’m Ali, a guitarist, songwriter, performer, and professional music teacher with a passion for helping people discover the joy of making music.
My musical journey began as a self-taught guitarist, learning songs by ear, studying music theory, and developing my skills through years of practice and performance. Over time, I learned not only from books and courses, and lessons, but also from playing with other musicians, performing live, writing original music, and collaborating in bands and recording projects.
Today, I teach music professionally and regularly perform at gigs in a variety of settings. My experience as both a teacher and working musician allows me to help students develop practical skills that can be applied to real musical situations, whether that’s playing at home, jamming with friends, performing live, or writing original songs.
I believe music should be enjoyable, creative, and accessible. The guitar is an incredibly versatile instrument, and I love helping students build confidence, find their own musical voice, and develop a lifelong connection with music.
Whether you’re picking up a guitar for the first time or looking to take your playing to the next level, I’d be happy to help you on your musical journey.

My lessons are designed to help students become confident, creative, and independent musicians. Rather than focusing solely on exercises or exams, I teach students how to actually use the guitar to make music, express themselves, and play with other musicians.
Lessons are tailored to each student’s goals and interests. Whether you want to learn your favourite songs, play in a band, write your own music, improve your improvisation, or simply become a more confident guitarist, we’ll build a learning plan that works for you.
Students will develop practical skills including chords, rhythm, scales, arpeggios, improvisation, ear training, songwriting, and music theory. Rather than learning scales as isolated patterns, we’ll explore how they can be used creatively for solos, melodies, and musical expression. The same applies to arpeggios and theory concepts: everything is taught in a way that connects directly to real music.
We’ll also explore how the guitar functions in different musical settings, including playing solo, accompanying singers, and performing with bands. Students will learn how to work effectively with drums, bass, keyboards, and other instruments, as well as how to create strong guitar parts through rhythm, voicings, dynamics, and musical awareness.
Lessons are typically one hour long and are available for students of all ages, from complete beginners to advanced players looking to deepen their understanding of the instrument. My goal is to help every student build confidence, enjoy the learning process, and develop a lifelong connection with music.
