About Nyan
I’m an undergraduate pre-law student with a strong passion for history, music, and especially the history of hip-hop. While this will be my first experience formally tutoring, I bring extensive personal knowledge and enthusiasm for the subject, and I’m excited to share that knowledge with students.
My interest in teaching was partly inspired by my aunt, who is a teacher herself. Seeing the work that goes into helping students understand new subjects made me think that tutoring would be a great way to combine my own interests with my desire to help others learn.
Although I am still an undergraduate student, I have spent a great deal of time studying and exploring hip-hop history, its major artists and albums, its different regional movements, and the cultural and historical circumstances that shaped the genre. My lessons are designed to turn that knowledge into engaging, understandable, and structured learning experiences.
You don’t need to be an expert—or even know much about hip-hop—to take my lessons. I welcome beginners and will build the material from the ground up before moving into deeper discussions and analysis.
As a pre-law student, I also bring strong research, reading, writing, and analytical skills to my lessons. My goal is to provide a professional and comfortable learning environment while sharing a subject that I genuinely enjoy.

Ever wondered how hip-hop became one of the most influential genres in music and popular culture?
In my lessons, we’ll explore the history and evolution of hip-hop from the 1980s through the 2000s, beginning with the early development of the genre and moving through some of its most important artists, albums, movements, and moments.
We’ll start with artists such as Run-D.M.C., Public Enemy, and N.W.A., before entering the 1990s and exploring the careers and impact of Tupac Shakur, The Notorious B.I.G., Nas, Jay-Z, Wu-Tang Clan, Snoop Dogg, and many others. We’ll then move into the 2000s with artists including Eminem, 50 Cent, Ja Rule, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, and more.
Lessons can cover individual artists and albums, rivalries, regional movements, the music industry, hip-hop culture, and the social and cultural events that influenced the music.
You do not need any previous knowledge of hip-hop history. Whether you’re completely new to the genre or already a passionate fan who wants to understand its history in greater depth, lessons will be adapted to your interests and level.
The goal isn’t simply to listen to great music—it’s to understand why these artists, albums, and moments mattered and how they helped shape hip-hop as we know it.
