About Mari
Hello! I'm Mari, and I'd love to help you on your Japanese learning journey.
As a fluent Japanese speaker who is half Japanese, I bring both language knowledge and cultural understanding to every lesson. I know that learning Japanese can feel intimidating at first, especially with three writing systems and unfamiliar grammar, but I believe anyone can become confident with the right guidance and consistent practice.
My teaching style is patient, encouraging, and personalized. Every student learns differently, so I adapt my lessons to match your experience, goals, and learning style. Whether you want to improve your conversational skills, prepare for a trip to Japan, strengthen your classroom studies, or simply enjoy learning a new language, I'll create lessons that keep you motivated and making steady progress.
I strive to create a comfortable environment where questions are always welcome and mistakes are seen as part of the learning process. As a tutor, my goal is to help students build confidence while developing practical Japanese language skills they can use in real conversations. Because I'm half Japanese and fluent in the language, I understand both the language itself and many of the cultural nuances that make learning Japanese so rewarding. I also know the common challenges English speakers face, so I explain concepts in a way that feels logical and easy to follow.
My lessons are tailored to each student's goals, whether they're learning Japanese for travel, school, work, anime and manga, or simply because they enjoy the language. A typical lesson begins with a quick review of previous material before introducing a new grammar point, vocabulary set, or conversation topic. We then practice together through speaking, reading, listening, and guided exercises before finishing with a recap and optional practice for the next lesson.
What sets me apart is my ability to combine real-world fluency with a patient, supportive teaching style. I encourage students to ask questions, make mistakes, and practice speaking from the very beginning because confidence grows through using the language, not just memorizing it. I also enjoy incorporating Japanese culture, customs, and everyday expressions into lessons to help students sound more natural and better understand the language in context.
My lessons are suitable for beginners through intermediate learners of all ages. Whether you're taking a Japanese class, preparing for a trip to Japan, studying for the JLPT, or learning as a hobby, I'll adapt each lesson to match your pace, interests, and learning style.
