About Amanda

With more than 30 years of crochet experience, Amanda specializes in helping crocheters confidently read and understand written crochet patterns. Whether you're a complete beginner or you've been crocheting for years but still find patterns confusing, Amanda will be your patient pattern partner every step of the way.

From written instructions and stitch abbreviations to charts and tricky techniques, Amanda breaks complex patterns down into simple, easy-to-understand steps. With a calm, supportive teaching style, she helps students (ages 12+) build the confidence to tackle any crochet project—from granny squares and scarves to garments, blankets, and beyond.

Amanda also specializes in helping students understand colorwork, garment construction, and other techniques that often feel intimidating at first.

About the lesson

Whether you're picking up a crochet hook for the very first time or you've been crocheting for years but can't make sense of written patterns, these lessons are designed for you.

As your crochet pattern partner, I'll help you build the skills and confidence to understand crochet patterns so you can confidently tackle projects on your own. Together we'll learn how to read abbreviations, understand repeats, interpret stitch counts, troubleshoot mistakes, and approach new projects with confidence.

Have a pattern that's been sitting in your stash because it feels overwhelming? Bring it to class! We'll work through it together, one section at a time, until you understand not only what to do, but why you're doing it.

If you're brand new to crochet, we'll start with the fundamentals: how to hold your hook, maintain comfortable yarn tension, master essential stitches, and create a solid foundation before moving on to reading written patterns.

Every lesson is tailored to your goals and taught in a calm, patient, and encouraging environment. Whether you want to finish your first scarf, tackle a beautiful sweater, or finally understand that intimidating pattern you've had saved for years, I'll guide you every step of the way.

The fine print:

Amanda's work hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Eastern time Monday-Friday.

I do offer extended hours (up to 9 p.m. on weekdays and weekend hours) with 24 hours notice. Happy to accommodate your schedules!

No fees/issues with cancellations or moving lesson time/date, please just let me know as soon as possible.

And if you ever have any issues or feedback, please let me know - I am happy to hear what will make our sessions better for you!
