Starting 11+ preparation at age 9 allows a steady, pressure-free approach rather than last-minute cramming.

• Year 3 (age 7-8): A gentle introduction that strengthens reading comprehension, vocabulary, and basic arithmetic.
• Year 4 (age 8-9): The sweet spot for most children to start dedicated 11 Plus work.
• Year 5 (age 9-10): Polish skills and build stamina through regular mock tests and past papers.

Every child is different, so consider their confidence level and how competitive your target schools are.

Private 11+ tutoring in Grassington generally runs at about £15/h per session.

The final cost depends on a few key elements:

• Whether the tutor is a qualified teacher or specialist (QTS status, exam board knowledge, success rate)
• The competitiveness of your target grammar schools
• Lesson delivery method (individual tuition, group classes, face-to-face, or via video call)
• Lesson frequency and duration

Many tutors offer package deals or sibling discounts, which can reduce the hourly rate over time.

Children sitting the 11 Plus are tested on English, Maths, and two types of reasoning skills.

• English: Tests understanding of texts, vocabulary, sentence structure, and written expression.
• Mathematics: Tests both calculation skills and mathematical reasoning ability.
• Verbal Reasoning: Measures how children manipulate words, spot patterns, and solve language-based puzzles.
• Non-Verbal Reasoning: Tests abstract thinking using diagrams, shapes, and visual patterns without words.

Some areas use GL papers while others use CEM, so check which format your target schools require.
