Accounting rests on five core principles that ensure financial records stay accurate and consistent.

• Revenue recognition: income appears in accounts when the sale occurs, not when money is received.
• Matching principle: expenses must be recorded in the same period as the revenues they helped generate.
• Historical cost: record assets at what you actually paid, not current market value.
• Full disclosure: include every material fact that might influence financial decisions.
• Objectivity: objectivity means using documented evidence to support every entry.

Together, they create a framework for consistent reporting across industries.

The average price of accounting tuition in Durham is around £23/h per hour.

Your final cost will depend on these variables:

• Your level of study (beginner, intermediate, or advanced)
• The tutor's expertise and track record (qualified accountant, experienced teacher, or specialist)
• Session length and frequency (weekly one-hour sessions, intensive revision blocks, or flexible scheduling)
• How lessons are delivered (online via video call, in person at home, or at the tutor's location)

Some tutors provide a free first lesson so you can test the fit before committing.

The number one rule is the accounting equation: Assets = Liabilities + Equity.

In practice, if you increase one side, you must adjust the other side by the same amount.

For example, if a company borrows £10,000, both its assets (cash) and liabilities (loan) rise by £10,000.

With one-to-one guidance, you will quickly learn to spot where entries need balancing.
