I personally know what it feels like being in a class and having the teacher’s words go in one ear, and out the other. Having had this issue throughout the first year of my GCSE course, and with the anxiety of exams coming up, I took it upon myself to teach myself all that I missed. My idea was to, first of all, invest in a revision guide, and work my way through the course.

I give lessons to year 11s and under to improve their grades. I like to give my students 'real world' translations, such as a blog post or article, to improve fluency and help learn new vocab. I also like to teach my students suitable revision methods in order for them to improve their independent work.
I allow the students that I teach my lessons to to be as focussed on them doing the work through activities. I teach what I need them to know then let them apply their knowledge. On this, I then tweak things to outline strengths to build on and factor in how to turn new information into strengths by inputting lots of repetition on said points. I do not move on until full understanding is known.
Basics first are essential. Building confidence in a student brings success and the required results follow. My experience will enable students to fulfill their potential and go on to study to higher levels. I tutored my daughter for less than a year so she could study medicine.

I believe that teaching starts with the building of self belief and a desire to succeed. From there, engagement can be further developed through carefully chosen texts, materials and methods that the student/s can relate to. Clear and constructive acknowledgement and feedback then feed in to the cycle of self belief and the desire to succeed.
