I am a classics undergraduate at the University of Oxford offering up to GCSE teaching in Ancient Greek as well as preparation for ab initio Ancient Greek at university. Lessons include reading, grammar comprehension, and prose composition (with optional lyric composition) so that students can fully understand the language.
Literature, Classics and Ancient History have always been my passion. I obtained a doctorate in Ancient History from the University of Oxford and I am currently tutoring there. I have worked with people of various ages, at all stages of learning, and with different levels of ability, including people with learning difficulties, so my experience is quite varied.
I'm an Oxford undergraduate studying Classics who would like to ignite some excitement about a subject which I promise is more than a dead language. Happy to give Skype lessons or in person in Oxford or when I'm at home (Surrey). I would give engaging lessons that would both lay a solid foundation of language but would be able to expand understanding of Classical literature, history and philosophy.
I'm a Canadian Master's graduate in Classics pursuing a PhD. Whether you're preparing for university or currently in university, I can help you succeed by teaching you how to write, read, and think critically.
I believe that the most important thing in a lesson is that it should be interesting. Hence, I make extensive use of games, challenges, and real-world applications in lessons.
I want the teaching to be fun for both the teacher and the person taught. This works best when the roles are somewhat less clear-cut in the first place: I try and push the other person to 'teach' me in turn, and thus develop their confidence and interest in the subject.
I have studied Classics since I was 8 and have enjoyed it ever since. Now I have the opportunity to study the classical literature of the Greats like Homer and Virgil in depth. For those who enjoy de-coding, puzzles and great storytelling, Classics has the ingredients of an exciting course.
- I can cater my teaching to a variety of needs: towards specific qualifications or general interest. - My native tongue is English, but I can speak fluent German. - If cancellation is on the same day as the lesson is due to be held (GMT), I reserve the right to charge 50% of the lesson-rate (dependent on individual circumstances).
