About Charly
I grew up just outside of Atlanta, Georgia in the USA. I completed my Bachelor’s in English at Gordon State College. For a post-uni trip, I went to London where I met the love of my life. We’ve been together ten years now! During that time, I’ve gotten my Master’s degree in Book History and Material Culture from the University of Edinburgh, and I’ve been raising my son and daughter while getting a part-time DPhil at Oxford University. We also have a chocolate coloured Cocker Spaniel named Fable and an Old English Sheep Dog puppy named Willow.

The main purpose of literature tuition is to help the student comprehend the literature and its wider place in history. We ask questions such as: what was the author trying to say? Did he say it? Did he say it well? What were other authors from this time/place writing about? How does this text contribute to our culture and society in a way that others don’t? We will also complete memory retaining activities to help the students remember the names of key characters and key events within the literature. We will practise responding to the literature through writing, which will vary depending on which year of school the child is in.
I am a literacy specialist, so if your child struggles to read in general, I can help them get to a level of reading quickly, comprehending everything they’ve read, and feeling prepared to use their critical thinking skills to respond to what they’ve read.
