FAQ's
📚 How many recognised ways of reciting the Quran are there?
Scholars call these seven recognised recitations the qira'at, each linked to the Prophet Muhammad through a chain of teachers.
- The seven readers are Nafi', Ibn Kathir, Abu 'Amr, Ibn 'Amir, 'Asim, Hamzah and al-Kisa'i.
- Two transmitters (ruwat) preserved each reading, so every qira'ah has two narrations.
- Hafs 'an 'Asim is the most widely recited narration today and the one most UK learners begin with.
- The differences involve vowelling, elongation (madd) and some word forms, without contradicting the meaning.
A qualified Quran tutor with an ijazah can explain each riwayah and correct your recitation in real time.
💰 What is the cost of Quran lessons in Stevenage?
Quran tutors in Stevenage typically charge £10/h.
This rate varies depending on several factors:
- Your current level (beginner, intermediate or advanced)
- The tutor's experience and qualifications, such as an ijazah
- The duration and frequency of lessons
- The teaching mode (in person or by video call)
Many tutors offer package discounts for booking multiple lessons.
📖 What are the first steps to learning the Quran?
Most beginners follow a clear path, from the Arabic alphabet to full recitation with Tajweed.
- The Arabic alphabet: learn the 28 letters and how their shapes change within a word.
- Short vowels (harakat): fatha, kasra and damma tell you how to voice each letter.
- Basic Tajweed covers makharij (points of articulation) and rules like madd, or lengthening.
- Short surahs from Juz 'Amma, like Al-Fatiha and Al-Ikhlas, are ideal first passages.
A qualified tutor listens to your recitation and corrects mistakes before they become habits.
