Learn English with an ESOL tutor in St. Werburghs

The 70/30 rule is a teaching principle where students speak 70% of the time and listen 30%.

Here is why this balance accelerates progress:

• Active practice builds fluency: the more you speak, the faster you retrieve vocabulary
• Mistakes become learning moments: your tutor corrects errors as you speak, so feedback is immediate
• Confidence grows through use: regular speaking practice reduces anxiety about real conversations

Standard lessons usually reverse this ratio, with instructors dominating. With a private tutor, you control the conversation and practise more.

Quality ESOL sessions use conversation prompts, simulations, and open questions to keep you engaged.

ESOL lessons in St. Werburghs typically cost £30/h per hour.

Prices differ based on a few key elements:

• The student's proficiency (beginner, intermediate, or advanced)
• The tutor's qualifications and experience (CELTA, DELTA, teaching certificates)
• How often you study (weekly sessions, intensive courses)
• Lesson type (video call, in-person, or hybrid)

Booking a block of lessons often reduces the hourly rate. Video lessons tend to cost less and still deliver excellent progress. Most tutors offer a first session at no charge to ensure a good fit.

ESOL stands for English for Speakers of Other Languages. It covers English courses aimed at non-native speakers.

Your ESOL tutor will focus on building four key abilities:

• Reading comprehension: understanding written texts, from everyday signs to formal documents
• Writing: crafting written responses for real-world needs
• Listening: understanding native speakers in various accents
• Oral fluency: communicating clearly with colleagues and neighbours

What sets ESOL apart is its emphasis on living, working, and studying in Britain.
