Find a French Tutor Near Me in Teignmouth

The subjunctive is widely considered the trickiest tense in French. Unlike the indicative, it deals with feelings, wishes, and uncertainty.

• Trigger phrases — Expressions like "il faut que", "je veux que", or "bien que" require the subjunctive.
• Irregular stems — Common verbs like être, avoir, aller, faire change completely.
• Practice tip — Start with fixed expressions and learn them as chunks.

Once you recognise the triggers, the subjunctive becomes more predictable and manageable.

The average price for a French lesson in Teignmouth is around £21/h.

This rate depends on several factors:

• Your current ability (beginner, intermediate, or advanced)
• The tutor's experience and qualifications (years of experience, exam specialisms)
• How often you book and session duration (weekly, intensive, or occasional)
• The lesson format (online, at home, or at the tutor's location)

Many tutors offer discounted rates when you book multiple sessions in advance. Quite a few tutors give a free first lesson so you can check the fit before committing.

The 80/20 rule suggests that roughly 20% of French vocabulary accounts for 80% of everyday speech.

Instead of learning random vocabulary, you focus on what native speakers actually use.

• Core vocabulary — The 1,000 most common words cover about 85% of written French.
• Grammar priorities — Present, passé composé, and imparfait handle most past and present situations.
• Real-world exposure — Listening to native content reinforces the vocabulary you need most.

Smart prioritisation helps you communicate sooner, which keeps motivation high.
