I am a qualified teacher and a proud mother to fabulous a 8-year old who grows up bilingual. I am from Vienna (Austria) but I also lived for a number of years in the German speaking part of Switzerland. My youngest student was 3 years old and my oldest 83.
I read Modern Languages (major German and minor French) at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, and am very enthusiastic about Germany and France - their language, culture and people. I spent an academic year at the University of Tübingen during my degree, two months on placement in Nancy (Lorraine), and then three months working in Hannover during my postgraduate diploma.
I aim to make lessons fun and engaging, focussing on the understanding behind a topic, enabling easier and more effective practice
I have my own lesson plans but these change after I get to know you better and figure out what you want to achieve. I am adaptable and will ask you if you want to cover anything specifically/if there are any weaknesses to focus on.
I create my own class content which will be tailored to each students needs and passions. The resources that I use in class will be given to the student, which they can use as revision tools in the future. I am also happy to work with the student's resources if they are wanting help with certain content, in example catching up on school topics.
My whole aim with teaching is to make the experience as enjoyable and beneficial as possible. I am happy to stick to the constraints of examination preparation, but I find that it is a lot better to explore all and any aspects of language as they come up.
There are many different factors that need to be taken into account for a teaching methodology. First thing out of all would be the age of my student. For languages, I first need to see what kind of course/module level he/she is taking. Secondly, what the aim of my student is by taking private tuitions with me.
I have given lessons up to GCSE standard and improved exam technique amongst languages. I work on writing and comprehension as well as speaking and listening, as well as trying to make it as fun as possible.
