Learning guitar begins with three pillars: how to hold the instrument, how to tune it, and how to form basic chords.

• Tuning is essential because an out-of-tune guitar makes every chord sound wrong.
• Open chords like E minor, A minor, C, G, and D are the building blocks of countless songs.
• Start with simple downstrokes before mixing in upstrokes for more complex grooves.

These basics unlock the door to playing real music within just a few weeks.

Private guitar tuition in Heywood usually runs at £15/h on average.

This rate may change depending on several factors:

• Your current ability (beginner, intermediate, or advanced)
• The tutor's qualifications and experience (grades, degrees, professional work)
• Lesson length and frequency (half-hour, full hour, one-off or regular)
• How you take your lessons (online, in-person at home, or at the tutor's studio)

Many tutors offer discounts for block bookings, which lowers the cost per lesson. Ask about introductory offers to find the right tutor risk-free.

In guitar terms, 80/20 means prioritising the techniques and chords you'll actually use most.

• Learning these five shapes covers roughly 80% of what you need for rhythm guitar.
• The pentatonic scale is the 20% of theory that unlocks 80% of lead guitar solos.
• Solid strumming makes you valuable in a band, even without advanced solos.

Apply this rule by asking: "Will I use this technique in real songs?"
