I tend to adjust and tailor a lesson depending on the individual need of a person. Usually, I listen to what a student needs to cover or is interested in learning, and then I decide how we can do it together. Most importantly, I ask the student the best way in which she/he learns, so we can work in a better way for him/her. My philosophy is: "it is all about the student, not me".
My teaching methodology is very adaptive. It will focus on the areas that the student is struggling with. This may include theory, use of evidence, essay structuring, time management. Politics is a subject of opinion/argument rather than fact, much of my teaching will involve conversation and debate to build knowledge and confidence.
Given the wide age and ability range I teach my teaching methodology is varied, and I very much aim to tailor the method to suit the individuals requirements and learning style. This might range from teaching students how to answer exam questions or how to approach essays, to Kagean or thinking skills more kinesthetic and collaborative learning.
I have a relaxed yet engaging teaching style up to GCSE level in History, Geography and combined Three Sciences. My favourite teachers at school were always the ones that taught me how to learn for myself, a thoroughly more rewarding experience than having facts rammed down your throat! I hope to be able to pass that on to you.
I'm familiar with and fluent in the requirements of the formal education system and can convey clearly what is necessary to attain the higher grades. I'm also very aware of the multiplicity of learning styles, and so target my teaching materials, methods and style according to the preferences and inclinations of the individual.
I have a passion for seeing progress in my students, but more than this, if the tutor is passionate it helps the student learn!
