Counting in Japanese involves two distinct systems with different uses.

Sino-Japanese numbers (the most common system):

• 1 = ichi, 2 = ni, 3 = san, 4 = shi or yon, 5 = go
• 6 = roku, 7 = shichi or nana, 8 = hachi, 9 = kyuu or ku, 10 = juu

Native Japanese numbers (used for counting objects without specific counters):

• 1 = hitotsu, 2 = futatsu, 3 = mittsu, 4 = yottsu, 5 = itsutsu
• 6 = muttsu, 7 = nanatsu, 8 = yattsu, 9 = kokonotsu, 10 = too

The variations for 4, 7, and 9 exist due to superstitions around similar-sounding words.

A private Japanese tutor in Slough charges an average of £15/h per session.

This rate varies depending on several factors:

• The student's proficiency (complete beginner, intermediate, or advanced)
• The tutor's qualifications and experience (years of teaching experience)
• How you take the lesson (remote, in-person, or hybrid)
• Frequency and duration (one-off lessons or regular packages)

Many tutors offer discounted rates for booking multiple lessons in advance.

Japanese differs greatly from English, yet its logic is consistent and learnable.

Key differences from English:

• Three writing systems: hiragana (46 characters), katakana (46 characters), and thousands of kanji
• Grammar structure: sentences follow Subject-Object-Verb order, not Subject-Verb-Object like English
• No articles or plurals: Japanese skips "the" and "a" entirely

Encouragingly: once you learn hiragana, you can read any word written in it correctly.

Students rate their Japanese tutors in Slough 5⭐ out of 5 on average.

This rating is based on 6 verified reviews from real students.
