I prefer to give lessons to GCSE students and below, but I'm also happy to teach beginners of any age. My teaching method is grammar heavy and involves a lot of practice translations to give the student as much experience as possible.
I offer two approaches: tailored tuition for students with particular goals (GCSE's, A-Levels, and University studies) and a course on Latin and Ancient Greek. I combine the teaching of grammar in context with interactive activties and resources for vocabulary learning.
My previous experience is in giving lessons to degree standard beginners Latin and English language tuition to candidates for B1/B2 standard. I like to keep classes fairly casual and conversational relying on the involvement of the pupil, while always keeping in sight their end goals. We only get there if we go together.
As a Bachelor's level Classicist, I am willing to give lessons for all levels of Latin and Ancient Greek, especially GCSE and A-Level. I base my lessons on what the students needs are: If you struggle with certain grammar structures, then we would look at them in isolation first, before moving on to spotting them in a text.
My teaching method is flexible and sympathetic. When I teach, I usually obtain good results and progress, whether I am helping a 6-year old with reading, or a University student with text analysis or critical theory. I always approach a lesson involving the student/s as much as possible, so they can expect to be a very active part of the class.
I love finding unique ways to help the individual, no two people learn in the exact same way so for me it is about finding what works for that particular person.
I like to teach in an interactive way, engaging in dialogue with students to promote understanding of core principles which we then apply to specific case studies. I think this method helps students better understand the heart of learning and understanding, so that they can apply principles universally, rather than simply memorize answers.
I can tutor anyone of any ability up to the first year of university. I would first get the student to highlight areas of difficulty that would need focusing on, as well as making sure to cover the entire syllabus. Each lesson, I would explain a new grammar point or theme in its most basic form, then complete some practice questions or plan an essay.
In terms of languages, grammar is the most important component for me.
I have successfully taught Greek and Latin language, literature and civilization at University College London, King’s College London (KCL), and at a secondary school. At KCL (2017-18), I am teaching ancient Greek to undergraduates using Reading Greek.
With an worked example based approach, I can either provide extra material or we can clear up material that you bring to the session. This is aimed at GCSE level (or equivalent) and below for core subjects, and French Latin and Philosophy at A-Level equivalent.
I'm an Oxford undergraduate studying Classics who would like to ignite some excitement about a subject which I promise is more than a dead language. Happy to give Skype lessons or in person in Oxford or when I'm at home (Surrey). I would give engaging lessons that would both lay a solid foundation of language but would be able to expand understanding of Classical literature, history and philosophy.

I've studied Latin for ten years now, having begun in Year 7 and carried it all the way through to my degree, in addition to Classical Civilisation. I am available to tutor in Latin reading and translating, focusing on assessing a student's grammar skills and developing from the technical side.
In both Greek and Latin I am able to tutor up to GCSE level and believe that the best way to tackle the ancient languages it through the 'little and often' method, particularly with vocabulary. At university I have written a number of first class essays, thus am able to aid essay structure and the analytical process of examining ancient evidence.
Lessons are tailor made for each group or individual student depending on their aims - whether it is for an exam or purely for personal interest. We make a plan together and review progress and aims regularly. Students will do some work on their own in between lessons to consolidate their learning - the amount of homework is agreed with the student.
I think my methodology completely depends on the level and age group of my tutee. As most people find the grammar the hardest aspect of Latin, my lessons especially for beginners would mainly be concentrated on locking down the basic grammar elements such as verb conjugations, noun declensions and sentence structure.
As a student myself, I understand the difficulties faced by students in the academic field. While I was at school, I often found the the subjects I struggled with the most were also the subjects which I enjoyed the least. In my teaching therefore, I think it is important to keep the student interested and to find interactive and energetic ways of teaching.
