I am currently a full-time student who studies A-Level maths, physics and product design. When mentoring students I like to be very subject and person specific and ensure they fully understand each piece of content before moving onto the next.
I have 12 years' experience successfully preparing pupils for KS2 SATs. I am able to provide an academically sound, friendly and fun approach to learning for your child. - Which subject(s) do you teach? I can teach maths, science and literacy up to KS2. I can teach French at KS2. I am qualified to teach English at KS3 - Tell me about your qualifications.
My method will depend on what the student wants to get out of a lesson. For example: if exam technique is primarily what the student wants to improve from tuition, I would pick out a few difficult problems from previous exams/textbooks to work through together.
I approach each topic of the syllabus clearly setting out the theory and then bring in questions of different types related to the topic, increasing in difficulty. At GCSE I also focus a lot on past paper questions relating to each topic which increases confidence and gets the students used to interpreting what the examiner actually wants.
I approach each topic individually focusing on the core content and then on potential exam questions, and exam technique. I believe that with a detailed knowledge of the specification and a solid exam technique any student can achieve high grades.
I am an Education Masters Graduate, Physics graduate and qualified teacher with 3 years' experience in a variety of schools, and 2 years' tutoring experience with a proven ability to teach a range of ages and abilities.

- Classes After an initial assessment, a study plan is devised with targets and goals set. Initially, the work is aimed at developing the students study skills and ensuring that all the foundation building blocks are in place. Progress is closely monitored with feedback being given at the end of each session. Students progress at a rate which is suitable for them and their learning style.
I base my lessons on what the student struggles with to get them the grade they’re aiming for whilst improving their confidence.
First we estabilish the students strengths and weaknesses. This could be done through discuss, school reports and/or a series of sort tests. The lesson structure I use involves describing and explaining the basic theory/concepts of a topic, progressing further if the student is able to grasp it. I will try other ways of explaining the information if they do not understand it the first time.
I enjoy seeing pupils learn and understand the concepts behind mathematics. I have always been excellent at questioning pupils to ensure they achieve their goals. I have 10 years experience teaching Science and Maths at GCSE up to A-level and specialist areas on undergraduate courses. I have taught in many Education settings and worked with a variety students. I have been an examiner, curriculum Co-ordinator and pupil progress lead for several year so have a great deal of experience with GCSE and A-level exams.
In my studies at school I have gained a good understanding of the types of lessons that pupils find engaging and productive, which I aim to give. My typical lesson would comprise of a short introduction to the topic followed by exploring several worked examples until a complete understanding of the topic has been reached.
I like to teach by understanding rather than by rote. If a student thoroughly understands a concept they are much likelier to remember it, and be able to deal with complicated/unorthodox problems. However this isn't an excuse not to practice. I typically go through some example problems with the student, and then see how the student fares in their own time.

- Classes We provide classes in Maths, English and Science across all key stages. Our programmes are totally original and were designed by VAKS to embrace the Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic Learning Styles to ensure our students are totally immersed in their learning. Each class consists of no more than six children at a time with a tutor and teaching assistant in attendance.
I take the 'fear factor' out of maths by helping students to understand the importance of Mathematical techniques and I use past exam papers to help students practice and understand methods and how to work answers out logically. Often maths games like Sudoku and times table practice are useful to build confidence and help students start to feel more comfortable with manipulating numbers.
