I have a degree in Education and a CELTA. I was trained to make lessons fun and productive at the same time. In my lessons I focus on speaking and pronunciation but reading/writing/listening are not left out completely. It is an interactive process of learning which can sometime lead to interesting discussions.
I have a communicative approach to my teaching. I strongly believe that reading textbooks or listening to sound recordings alone does not benefit a student in any way and this is why I encourage all my of students to engage in conversation practice on a wide range of interesting and stimulating topics.
I am an incredibly patient and understanding individual. I have a kind and caring nature and can tailor my lessons to suit each person's individual learning style. There are no stupid questions and together we can work towards your goal grade.
I generally like to focus on understanding and expression, building up knowledge of grammar and vocabulary along the way. Of course, every student is different. Therefore, I will always ask for the student's personal input to make the lessons more effective, relatable, and relevant.
How I teach depends on the age, level and aims of my students. I do not teach mainstream textbook courses, but I can support students needing extra help with such courses or needing to cover materials their course does not cover.
I explain the basic methodology and structure of approaching problems by recognising problem solving patters and enable students to figure out solutions themselves. I believe that any problem can be solved if approached from first principles and in my teaching I will guide students to recognise and internalise the same.
I approach each student differently depending on their respective levels of English. Firstly, I try to talk with the student and discuss some typical topics in the language of their choice in order to deduct where the student has blanks in their knowledge. From then onward, I work on the gray areas with the student as well as taking time to strengthen even further the student's base.
Since 2011, most of my students have been international undergraduate and postgraduate students (in Business, Law, Social Sciences, Science and Engineering) preparing to enter a higher education institution in the UK. I prefer using a student-centred approach, but also include quizzes/tests and frequent reviews to improve your learning.
