I believe strongly in order to maximise the potential for learning, i must build a relationship with my peer first. A mature, sensible and professional relationship built upon a mutual respect will ensure the peers comfort and make them more willing to engage in my lessons. Occasional jokes and a similar sense of humour and shared interest help with this but aren't necessary. I approach each lesson with a goal in mind (This could be to cover a certain area in a course or to clear up any issues the peer is facing at the time)and I will always take the lessons as simply as possible to prevent any confusion.
I have been attending Wilmington Grammar School for Boys since 2013 and took my GCSE exams there. In this, I achieved the equivalent of 5 A*s (Including English Literature, English Language, Combined Sciences and Maths), 3 A's (Including Computer Science, RS and DT) and a C in German. I am now undergoing My A levels where i am taking English Literature, Psychology, Sociology and AS Media. I have been undergoing therapy for 2 years now where i have learnt key skills such as providing support and advice. Furthermore, i am a trained peer mentor at my school, i which i provide academic and social support and advice to students of lower year groups. On top of this, i have volunteered for a further 10 weeks of peer mentor training as it is something i am passionate about.
I am best at teaching students in KS3 or KS4.
Application for part time weekend/evening employment
I currently attend Wilmington Grammar School for Boys and I have recently finished sitting all of my GCSE exams. I then chose to enter this schools sixth form for A levels, where I am taking Psychology, English Literature, Sociology and AS Media Studies. These 4 subjects are aimed to aid me in achieving my ideal career as either a psychologist or journalist.
During my 5 years at this school, the teachers have described me as a very positive and enthusiastic person who brings an optimistic outlook to the table. Furthermore, I am said to be a respectful person who always puts others first. I guess you could say I’m a ‘people person’. I always do my best to make others happy in any way I can. Also, my friends describe me as a unique character who is very reliable and trustworthy. They say I am a team player whilst also being a good leader when the time is right.
Personally, I would describe myself as a funny, confident and friendly character who can boost morale in the workplace environment. I can ensure that I will always try my hardest to complete a task.
During my life so far, I have achieved a few awards and attended a few clubs. During my secondary school life, I received 2 awards for ‘Effort in German’ and ‘Achievement in English’. I believe these skills highlight my hardworking attitude. Furthermore, I also attended beavers, cubs and briefly scouts as a child. I even achieved ‘Beaver of the Year’ award in 2009. These clubs taught me essential team and communication skills and helped me learn about the importance of respect, equality, hard work and kindness.
Regarding my spare time, I enjoy to write poetry, drawing, play Xbox and socialising with my friends. I will be more than happy to show any drawings or poetry upon request. All my friends, family and even some strangers say that the quality in my work is astounding and it is something I take pride in. I enjoy trying new things and always aim for the best.
The list below shows my GCSE results. I believe this highlights the effort I put in at school and I could put what I’ve learnt into practise in the workplace.
English Literature 7
Resistant Materials A
English Language 8
Computer Science 7
Combined Science 8,8
Religious Studies 6
RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE / VOLUNTARY WORK
During 2017 I had one week of experience working in Building Control and Regulations in Dartford Borough Council. Whilst working here, I learnt about all the building regulations necessary for things such as loft extensions and I learnt I depth about safety in the work environment. I also learnt about the safety precautions at Bluewater Shopping Centre. I believe this will be helpful if I am ever to work here in the future. During this week, I developed new skills regarding communication, team work, punctuality and basic office/IT skills.
I also spent a couple of months volunteering at a cat shelter with an old friend. Here we would visit cats without a home and look after them until they were adopted by families. I think that this demonstrate my kind heart and respect to others.
I am currently a sales assistant at The Entertainer. This job focuses on my customer service. With this, I developed some key social skills such as listening, maintaining a calm attitude, time management and handling stressful situations. I also have experience in the stockroom and I am fully till trained. My manager once described me as being ‘bubbly’ and my assistant manager claimed that she liked me because I am good at getting on with my work.
Furthermore, I also helped raise money for an elderly lunch club in Dartford that takes place in a church as a way of showing how we admire their service and that their respect and welcoming is worthy of a reward.
Lastly, I am currently a peer mentor at my school. This leadership role is similar to being a counsellor or tutor in the sense that I am providing support in social, academic and mental situations. I help students manage time, I help them with homework, I listen to their problems and give feedback and advice. I love this role as it is very interesting for me and it ties in well with what I’d like to do in the future. This role encourages characteristics such as communication skills, empathy and sympathy. I loved this role so much that I volunteered for a further 10-week course of peer mentor training which only a select few of peer mentors are achieving.
I would very much like to expand my skills by working for you and I feel that I will be a valuable asset to you and your team.
