About Anna Sophie
I have been playing guitar for twenty years, fifteen of those I have played at a professional level. I love all kinds of music -- as long as it involves people getting together to make playful, soulful sounds, I think it is an essential ingredient to a good life! I have been teaching music and languages for over ten years. My teaching philosophy is rooted in my belief that everyone has the capacity to learn new things, and that often when someone thinks they are 'bad' at music it is really because they had a teacher who mystified more than they explained. The first step in learning something new is learning to relax into the experience and to find joy in it. My two greatest loves are music and teaching. I think that music is a beautiful thing that is best enjoyed with an instrument in hand, and I want to share that beauty with as many people as possible! I have worked with all sorts of students, including children, elderly adults, disabled people, and people with rather severe educational traumas. I look forward to crafting lessons to your particular goals, interests and needs!

My goal is for the student to discover their own love of music while they also gain the skills necessary to teach themselves into the future. My lessons involve the basics of music theory insofar as that is helpful to the practice of the instrument -- I don't want my students to do exercises without understanding why they are doing them, but at the same time I don't want them memorising abstract theoretical concepts without any grounding in the physicality of music. I also have taught singing, and specialise in teaching guitarists to sing along to their playing.
