I am classically trained on flute, clarinet, saxophone and recorder reaching grade 8 (ABRSM) and also attaining a Diploma in instrumental teaching. I recently received a first class honours degree in music technology from the University of Kent and this has helped me to understand sound production as well as the use of technology in performance.
At university I studied Jewish and Balkan folk music on clarinet with Dave Shulman (Royal School of Music) and jazz saxophone with Mick Foster (Trinity Laban). I therefore teach and play a wide variety of styles such as folk, popular, jazz and reggae.
I believe passionately in the natural ability of anybody to learn given the right encouragement and love to teach beginners, starting them off on their musical journey. I also teach intermediate and advanced players developing their own sense of musical style. My methods range from following examination syllabuses (ABRSM and Trinity) to enabling students to learn aurally and improvise. My teaching style is completely dependent and responsive to the individual pupil.
I currently host private lessons but also work in schools for organisations such as the Music for Schools Foundation and Kent Music. I have experience in teaching individually, in small groups, whole class instrumental lessons, leading ensembles, running music and arts workshops and composing for groups.
I have a fun enthusiastic approach and aim to develop pupils' confidence in their own abilities.
