About Rachel
I'm Rachel, a medical student whose passion in life is playing the clarinet!
Since starting aged 9, I achieved Distinction in my ARSM Music Performance diploma, played Principal Clarinet part of the National Youth Development Orchestra of Scotland (4 years), and was member of many other ensembles including the West of Scotland Schools Symphony Orchestra all before I left school.
Currently, I'm a Montfort Scholarship holder in my University's Music Centre, am Symphony Orchestra Manager for our university Symphony orchestra and have involved myself in countless musical opportunities (pit band musicals, solo performances, chamber groups...)
My favourite part of clarinet is playing in groups with other people - imo clarinet is the best for being able to join a variety of orchestras, classical small groups, jazz and more. I would highly recommend learning this amazing instrument :)

I would love to help create & support new clarinet players - it's such a rewarding, enjoyable experience that you won't regret. I'm aiming to accept students who are more new to clarinet, but am open to students who are up to Grade 5 level. Whether you're looking for just a fun hobby, or are interested in pursuing music grades, I'm here for it all!
The sessions I'll give will be in a relaxed, supportive style (my clarinet teacher was the loveliest person, so I hope to emulate her) while encouraging you to always take it that bit further to make it sparkle. I'll shape our lessons based on your personal goals, be that building confidence with a new instrument, learning fun songs or developing technique to start Grades.
If you're a complete beginner, it can be daunting to start an unfamiliar instrument, but I can help you with whatever you need to grow - including basic music theory if needed. I hold a Grade 5 theory distinction and took Advanced Higher music (A) so I can definitely help with general music too.
I'd prefer to do online/remote lessons, but am happy to do in person lessons depending on location.
Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions!
