I believe formulas are derived from the happenings, not the other way round. Hence teaching should start from an example and then relate the concept.
I will first tell you why the wheel was invented and then move on to why circumference of a circle is 2*pi*r.
I will not ask if Jack has 2 apples and eats one how many he is left with. Instead we shall approach every problem from its origin. That is where creativity begins and inventions happen and you can make a difference :)
