About Maude
I am an experienced violin tutor with 18 years of teaching practice, working with around 300 students including high school students, college learners, and adults. My teaching philosophy focuses on making learning simple, clear, and effective, as I believe students learn best when lessons are easy to follow.
I pay close attention to fundamentals such as posture, bowing technique, rhythm, and tone quality, ensuring that students develop strong skills. I break down complex techniques into smaller steps so students can learn with confidence. I also guide students in building good practice habits that support steady improvement.
One of my notable achievements is helping students grow into confident violin players. My aim is to create a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel motivated to learn.

My teaching style for violin focuses on communication, flexibility, and connecting lessons to practical musical experiences. I adapt lessons to each student’s learning style, pace, and abilities, ensuring both technical and expressive skills are developed.
I emphasise posture, bowing, fingering, tone, intonation, phrasing, and musical expression while fostering creativity and personal interpretation. Real-life examples such as performing songs, practising with recordings, and understanding music’s emotional aspects make lessons engaging and relatable.
In addition to violin, I teach music theory, rhythm exercises, ear training, sight-reading, and basic piano skills to strengthen overall musicianship. My aim is to create a structured, supportive, and inspiring environment where students gain confidence and enjoy steady progress.
