About Jane
I am a private tutor with over 10 years of experience in tutoring students of all ages, as well as adults and business professionals. Subjects include Academic Writing, English, Chinese, Mathematics, Business Management, and Economics. I value all my students and tailor my classes according to their personal needs and personalities. I also provide proofreading and editing services to students, university professors, and businesspersons.
I have a Master degree in Commerce and majored in Public Sector Studies. I am currently a PhD student, with a research interest in Finance. English is my native language and I am proficient in Mandarin and Chinese. I was awarded a certificate for the HSK Test (Chinese Proficiency Test) at the Advanced level (Approved by the Beijing Language and Culture University).
Growing up and receiving education in Australia has provided me with a good knowledge of the Australian education system. Furthermore, having worked in a college for nearly four years, I have an in-depth knowledge of the vocational education and higher education sectors. During my employment at the college, I was responsible for many roles and made important contributions to the development, management, and operation of the college. As a result, I further expanded my professional writing skills, project management skills, and communication skills. I now work on course development projects for higher education providers and universities.

I teach students of all ages: Y1-12 students, university students, Ph.D. students, university professors, business professionals, and adults. I teach both domestic and international students individually and in small groups.
To ensure that my students are making the most out of each class, I have devised my own set of teaching methods and systems. Prior to commencing class, I communicate with my students to find out what they need help with or areas they want to work on. During our first class, I tend to provide my students with different activities to assess their level and from there I develop future lessons. My typical lesson consists of two parts - revision of last class and new learning material. In cases where students have work they want to work on, for example, revision for an exam, tests, SACs, help with homework, presentation preparation, I tailor my lessons to suit them. The focus of my lessons may change over time as my students develop and mature.
Another thing that makes my lessons special is that I value that everyone is different in how they receive information and learn, therefore I take into account my student's background, personality, and age.
For example, Chinese students tend to be more conservative, so for that cohort, in addition to teaching them, I add in other elements such as communication skills and the Australian culture to help them blend in and to better express themselves.
Younger students have a much shorter attention span, therefore I use more activity-based learning to keep them motivated, engaged, and interested.
VCE students have a much stronger focus on doing well on their exams, hence I incorporate exam preparation skills.
For business professionals preparing for a presentation, I place emphasis on their speed, interaction with the audience, posture, body language etc.
These name a few examples of how I tailor my lessons to suit different individuals.
I am extremely passionate about teaching and have great pride in what I do and seeing my students grow as a person.
