About Marina

Hi, I’m Marina Zimmermann, a passionate violinist from Brazil with a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, where I studied under Ida Bieler. My musical journey has taken me from performing with orchestras such as the Winston-Salem Symphony to working with regional chamber ensembles and my own chamber music group, “L’estro Armonico.”

I’ve had the honor of learning from esteemed musicians and participating in international festivals, which has enriched my teaching and performing experiences. My approach to teaching violin blends technical expertise with a supportive mindset, ensuring that each student can achieve their musical goals, whether they're aiming for a professional career or simply enjoying music as a hobby.

When I'm not teaching or performing, I love planning, exploring nature, and listening to Brazilian music while cooking. I also enjoy watching good movies in my free time.

Let’s connect and make beautiful music together!

As an experienced violin tutor, my teaching approach is centered on a triad of essential elements: Mindset, Practice, and Technique. Having taught violin since 2013, I've developed a comprehensive methodology that ensures students not only master the technical aspects of playing but also cultivate the right mindset for performance and effective practice habits.

- Teaching Method and Techniques

My teaching method integrates the development of technical skills with mindset training and structured practice routines. I believe that having technical proficiency without the confidence to perform or the ability to practice effectively is insufficient for becoming a successful violinist. Therefore, my lessons emphasize:

1. Mindset: Building the mental resilience needed to perform confidently in public.
2. Practice: Developing efficient practice strategies to maximize progress.
3. Technique: Establishing a solid technical foundation before tackling complex pieces.

- Typical Lesson Plan

A typical lesson with me includes:

1. Warm-Up: Exercises to improve finger agility and bow control.
2. Technical Work: Focused practice on scales, arpeggios, and études (e.g., Suzuki, Mazas, Kreutzer).
3. Repertoire: Working on pieces that match the student's current level and musical interests.
4. Mindset Coaching: Techniques for overcoming performance anxiety and building confidence.
5. Practice Strategies: Guidance on how to structure practice sessions effectively.

- What Sets Me Apart

What distinguishes me as a tutor is my holistic approach to violin education. I ensure that students:

1. Develop technical skills systematically to prevent frustration and build confidence.
2. Learn to practice efficiently to make the most of their time.
3. Cultivate a positive mindset, which is crucial for performing well under pressure.

I also tailor my lessons to be enjoyable and stress-free, incorporating music that students are passionate about to maintain their enthusiasm and motivation.

- Who the Lessons Are For

My lessons are suitable for:

1. Beginners who are just starting their violin journey.
2. Intermediate students looking to solidify their technical foundation.
3. Advanced players aiming to refine their skills and perform confidently.
4. Individuals preparing for auditions, recitals, or competitions.

Whether you are a beginner or an advanced student, my personalized violin lessons in Winston-Salem or online are designed to help you achieve your musical goals and enjoy the learning process.
