About Willow

My passion for mathematics began when I realised that every complex idea becomes understandable when broken into small, logical steps. This appreciation for structure inspired me to complete an M.Ed in Mathematical Foundations, where I studied learning theory, numerical reasoning, and effective strategies for teaching diverse learners. Over my 12 years of tutoring, I’ve supported students in elementary school maths, middle school maths, algebra, geometry, and SAT maths, always emphasising clarity, confidence, and calm problem-solving. I believe every student is capable of understanding maths when guided with patience and thoughtful explanation. My teaching style focuses on encouragement, gentle correction, and steady progression so learners never feel overwhelmed. I enjoy presenting multiple solution paths, relatable scenarios, and visual interpretations that help students “see” the concept instead of memorising it. Many students who once struggled with maths eventually become confident learners who can explain their reasoning with clarity—something I find incredibly rewarding. Outside of teaching, I continue to study new instructional techniques, advanced maths topics, and problem-solving strategies used in competitive exams. I enjoy working through puzzles, mathematical games, and conceptual challenges, which keeps my lessons fresh and creative. Helping students grow into independent, capable thinkers remains one of the most meaningful parts of my career.

Mathematics becomes much less overwhelming when students understand it as a connected system of ideas rather than a collection of formulae. In my lessons, I guide learners through elementary school maths, middle school maths, geometry, algebra, and SAT maths by breaking concepts into small, intuitive steps that help reduce stress and increase clarity. I use patient explanations, relatable examples, and reasoning-based methods so students develop confidence that grows naturally with each lesson. My teaching environment is warm, structured, and reassuring, encouraging students to explore ideas without fear of mistakes. Every student benefits from personalised pacing, so I adapt instruction to match their level and goals. Beginners work on number sense, visual strategies, early algebraic thinking, and foundational problem-solving. Intermediate learners strengthen multi-step reasoning, geometry interpretation, algebraic fluency, and proportional thinking. Advanced students focus on SAT maths efficiency, strategic shortcuts, exam-style logic, and deeper conceptual understanding. Throughout all levels, I encourage questions, steady practice, and reflection so each student can understand how mathematical ideas connect and support one another. Maths lessons also help students develop important life skills such as persistence, analytical clarity, and patient reasoning. As learners grow more comfortable with topics like algebra or geometry, they begin trusting their ability to solve problems independently. Many students discover that maths can feel manageable—even enjoyable—when they have supportive guidance and clear explanation. My goal is to help learners feel capable, confident, and ready to engage with mathematical ideas without pressure or fear.
