My teaching method is extremely varied, I find the most effective method is to adapt to the unique learning style of every student. For example, some students will respond very well to step by step examples and others will need to try the problems themselves in order to gain understanding. A mix of different methods tailored to the individual is what I find works best.
However, I will always provide resources in advance of the session, this enables students to look through material to gain an understanding of what will be covered. I will also provide resources which can be completed independently between sessions and then give feedback on these questions.
I am very patient and always more than willing to cover topics multiple times to be confident that the student has a deep and thorough understanding. I believe shallow learning is easy to achieve but also easily forgotten, so I really try my best to ensure students know why they are doing certain things and don't just follow a standard method.
I am currently studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bath, I have been privately tutoring in Maths for 3 years at GCSE and A Level. I achieved 2 A* grades in Maths methods and applications in year 10 and 3 A* grades at A Level in Maths, Further Maths and Physics.
I have tutored multiple students who achieved much improved grades than they were originally predicted.
During my gap year I was employed as a teaching assistant at a local secondary school. My role was working one to one or in small groups with students who needed targeted help in order to improve their current working level. Throughout this time, I gained experience in classrooms and learnt skills and techniques from much more experienced teachers, which I now use in my own tutoring. This also allowed me to gain invaluable and up to date knowledge of A Level and GCSE specifications and what examiners expect from students in GCSE and A Level exams.
GCSE LEVEL - £18 / hr
A Level - £20 / hr
I have just finished my first year studying Mechanical Engineering (MEng) at the University of Bath. I enjoyed working in a secondary school, as a teaching assistant, in my gap year after finishing my A Levels. I have worked with a huge variety of people and I am always happy to get stuck in. I am organised, punctual, and good at problem solving.
UNIVERSITY OF BATH
MECHANICAL ENGINEERING SEPTEMBER 2019 - PRESENT
I am studying Mechanical Engineering as a 5-year undergraduate master’s degree with a placement. I have really enjoyed my first year as it has allowed me to challenge myself and learn lots of new principles in the field. I’ve particularly enjoyed my degree as it has allowed me to meet so many new people from all around the world. My semester 1 average was a first class at 80.6%.
GRAVESEND GRAMMAR SCHOOL
GCSES AND A LEVELS SEPTEMBER 2011 – JULY 2018
I attended Gravesend Grammar School from year 7 to year 13, I completed 11 GCSEs and achieved 9 A* and 2 A grades. My time at secondary school was great, I made friends for life and learnt many skills I still use today. I studied 3 A Levels in Maths, Further Maths and Physics and achieved 3 A* grades.
GRAVESEND GRAMMAR SCHOOL SEPTEMBER 2018 – JULY 2018
Throughout this role I helped all years improve their mathematical ability through a number of one to one and small group sessions. My main focus was helping year 13 students improve their A Level grades. I also worked alongside other staff to help them deliver great teaching.
This was a great opportunity for me to work in a professional environment and I demonstrated organisational and time keeping skills. Above all, every day presented a unique challenge, and working with children with very different needs and abilities taught me how to communicate effectively and solve problems quickly.
MEAPA GYMNASTICS CLUB, GRAVESEND APRIL 2016 – JULY 2018
Having competed in gymnastics at a regional level when I was 11-14, I wanted to volunteer and try coaching younger gymnasts. This led me to completing my Men’s Artistic Level 1 coaching course, and floor and vault judging course, after which I became a qualified coach and began to take my own groups of gymnasts. I coached a development group of gymnasts as well as preschool aged children. This job allowed me to develop my skills as a coach as well as learning how to communicate and engage with paying customers. I still volunteer for the club as a judge and love to do adult gymnastics when I can.

Head Student – Gravesend Grammar School APRIL 2017 – APRIL 2018
After voting by students and staff, and a gruelling interview with the head teacher I was so proud to become head student. This role developed my leadership and teamwork skills as I worked closely with my team, staff members and managed a group of 15 prefects. It also allowed me to engage with the community and speak at events.
VIP (Vertically Integrated Project) – University of Bath JANUARY 2020 – MAY 2020
This project was among the first of its kind in England, a team of both university students and academic staff worked together to find a solution to a given problem. My team was tasked with sustainable transport in and around the city of Bath. I undertook lots of independent research, and we created a tool to show the impact of the widespread uptake of E-Bikes. At the end I presented our findings to a group of students and academic staff from 2 universities using Microsoft Teams.
DSAT – University of Bath JANUARY 2020 – PRESENT
In the Mechanical Engineering department at the University of Bath, DSAT (Department Self-Assessment Team) is responsible for ensuring the department promotes inclusion, equality and diversity. The team analyses feedback and plans future changes to ensure these goals are met. I was one of the first undergraduate student members of the team. I’m really passionate about creating an environment which is diverse and equal, whether this means gender or racial equality, to use just two examples.

When I have free time, I really enjoy road cycling and mountain biking, I try and do a 50+ mile ride once a week. I also really enjoy walking, running and travelling. In lockdown I’ve been desperately trying to beat my 5K time. At university, I swam regularly and I rediscovered rock climbing / bouldering which I travelled to Bristol to do twice a month.
