My lesson approach is making sure that the students understand the basic maths that result in the formulae used. This way it's easier to remember the formulae e.g. a triangle is half of a rectangle, hence to find the area we half the area of the rectangle. I also use the interconnection of topics - hence making students understand the connections between topics.
