About Michael
I am a qualified Mathematics tutor with a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics from the University of Leeds and over three years' experience providing one-to-one tuition to primary and secondary school pupils.
I work with students across a wide range of abilities, including those studying National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher Mathematics. My approach is patient, supportive and adaptable, with lessons tailored to each student's individual learning style and goals. Whether a student is struggling with confidence, looking to improve their grades, or aiming for top exam results, I focus on building a strong understanding of mathematical concepts while creating a positive and encouraging learning environment.
I also have experience supporting children with additional support needs, including autism and learning disabilities. I understand that every student learns differently and take pride in adapting my teaching methods to help each learner reach their potential.
Before becoming a tutor, I spent many years working in customer-facing hospitality roles, developing excellent communication, organisation and interpersonal skills. These skills have proved invaluable in building strong relationships with students and parents and helping learners feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes as part of the learning process.
My goal is not only to improve academic performance but also to help students develop confidence, resilience and a more positive attitude towards mathematics. Seeing students gain understanding and achieve results they once thought were beyond them is the most rewarding part of my work.

My lessons are tailored to the individual needs, ability level and learning style of each student. I aim to create a supportive and relaxed environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and developing their understanding at their own pace.
At the start of our work together, I identify areas of strength and topics that need improvement. Lessons are then planned to address these areas while building confidence and reinforcing key mathematical skills. I explain concepts clearly, break down difficult topics into manageable steps and provide plenty of opportunities for guided practice.
I can help with classwork, homework, exam preparation and revision, as well as developing a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts. Regular feedback is provided so that students and parents can monitor progress and identify areas for further development.
My goal is not only to improve results but also to help students become more confident, independent learners who feel capable of tackling mathematical challenges both in school and in examinations.
