I am a Civil Engineering Masters student at the University of Southampton with tutoring experience at both a secondary school and college level, with a drive to help others develop the passion and understanding for maths required to succeed.
A typical lesson would follow the general structure of any lesson: explain new theory, implement theory into practice, discuss. Now while this is a tried and tested structure, the real magic happens during everything in between. I sprinkle my lessons with fun references, use drawings and props, answer any and every maths question to ever cross the student's mind and generally create a light-hearted learning atmosphere. Maths can sometimes not be the most glamorous of subjects to learn, so putting things into relatable and interesting context (with someone who can easily explain things in understandable terms) can be extremely helpful.
The phrase 'practice makes perfect' is thrown around quite a lot, however I feel that with maths this really is the case. Success doesn't just appear, it's the result of hard work and determination!
