I firstly find out expectations, build trust and rapport and then find out students learning style. I am very adept at this because I have trained and mentored at work for years. It’s important to find out how the student is being taught and offer alternatives that may be easier to understand. Exam technique is also very important
I work as a Project Manager in the finance industry. I’m a maths graduate who has tutored several students to A grades. Have also taken one student with dyslexia from an E grade to a B grade the following year. I enjoy working as a team with my students rather than teacher and pupil.
Had Mike for 6 months before my national 5. Was excellent at talking me through the areas of the course I was struggling with at the time. Got me an A so would recommend :) thank you
From not being a natural student at maths and failing my national 5 first time round I started tuition once a week with Mike and within a couple of weeks I started to enjoy maths as Mike was excellent at explaining different methods to get to the right answer and for me his explanations were much simpler than in the classroom. Mike had the patience and ability to make maths fun and to build my confidence . I thought I was hopeless at maths and always would be! Mike was very motivational. If I didn’t understand things he always had an alternative way to reach the correct answer until we found a way that it made sense to me and a way of remembering what the question was asking. This year I attained a high B in my Nat 5.
