Hi there! I am Kevin. I had 8 years of lessons in Chinese calligraphy and obtained Grade 9 in National Examination. I am passionate to share the traditional Chinese arts and have been delivering Chinese calligraphy lessons for 3 years. I am currently a year 1 medical student in University of Leeds.
I am able to teach basic writing styles: regular script as well as semi-cursive scripts. There's organized curriculum available: We will start from learning to write basic strokes and progress to write simple characters and hopefully you can write couplets or poems at the end of the lessons. For each lesson, I will start with writing theory, followed by students' own practice time where I will give immediate feedback and correct any mistakes in writing on the spot. I can also design some homework depending on students' availability to practice at home. One lesson typically last around one hour.
I have previously delivered weekly Chinese calligraphy lessons to primary school students in Singapore for 3 years so I have the experience as well as organized teaching materials ready. Have taught more than 30 students. Some of them won awards at national primary school Chinese calligraphy competitions.

Perfect! I've been tutoring with Kaiwen over 15 weeks for Chinese Calligraphy and I'm confident in recommending him if you want to learn this subject from a professional. He's been practicing calligraphy since very young age and has good artistic taste. He could manage teaching both very traditional textbook style as well as characters with more freedom. I was concerned about learning through video chat but I've made dramatic progress since first lesson. I must say it is a challenge to catch stroke details if you are a beginner, but Teacher Kaiwen will change the angle of the camera and demonstrate comparison between how you do it wrong and the correct way. This juxtaposition helped me to progress quickly. Before each lesson, he sends pdf containing lesson plan and examples.
Good! I was very excited to make contact with Kaiwen. Unfortunately he was out of the country so he wasn’t able to visit me for my lesson (I’m disabled and housebound), but we chatted on Facebook Messenger and he gave me a video lesson. I’ve been practicing ever since then. My brush skills are terrible! I’m hoping that I will improve when Kaiwen returns to U.K. and can give me a face to face lesson to see what I’m doing wrong.
Kaiwen is easy to talk to on Messenger. I am looking forward to learning more from him
I’ve only given a “good” review so far because we haven’t managed a face to face lesson. I’m sure the review will become “excellent” when we’ve managed to have a face to face lesson
