I am a friendly and enthusiastic teacher based in Birmingham. I remember well my own time spent learning several instruments, and the delights and challenges this brought.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach bassoon, mini-bassoon, piano and music theory.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I am a graduate from Birmingham Conservatoire, where I gained a first class BMus (hons) Performance on the bassoon. I also have achieved ABRSM Grade 8 on Piano.
- Where do you teach?
I teach from my home in Northfield, Birmingham, West Midlands
- When are you available?
I am available for lessons both during the day and early evenings. I am often happy to continue during school holiday periods as much as possible and these periods offer the opportunity for more flexible timings.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all ages, from adults through to young children. Please bear in mind for bassoon lessons that physical size is a consideration for the instrument, and it may be advisable to start on a mini-bassoon. For bassoon, I will teach all standards from beginner to Grade 8 and above. For piano and theory, I can teach as far as approx Grade 6, and will advise on this in due course.
- What might a typical lesson include?
Lessons are tailored to your age but typically include use of games, apps, playing duets and occasionally singing in order to work each term through repertoire, technique and related music theory. Making music together must be fun!
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I usually work towards ABRSM grade exams, but am willing to discuss your requirements e.g. Trinity grade exams or no exams. I believe that having a goal to work towards is a key motivator for student's practice and a qualification is an added bonus, but I realise that this approach may not suit all students.
