About Matheus

In my classes I use the "Communicative Approach", a relatively recent method of teaching languages where the student learns a language through communication and sense of speech. Grammar and grammatical structures are not the focus of teaching, but only support for flowing communication.

At every meeting I bring a situation like "going to the supermarket", "going to a restaurant" or "meeting a friend on the street", for example, with new vocabulary and a new conversation proposal.

I use material such as PowerPoint to present the vocabulary and make the activity proposals.

For children's classes:
I use my own material, made in PowerPoint, games and online activities done on different sites like "baamboozle.com" and "learnenglishkids.britishcouncil.org".

For general education and support classes:
I base my classes and extra activities on the book "Smart Choice" by Oxford University Press.
(YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PURCHASE THE BOOK FOR THE LESSONS)

For FCE / MET preparation classes and other proficiency tests:
I use the book "Objective First" from Cambridge University.
(YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PURCHASE THE BOOK FOR THE LESSONS, BUT IT IS RECOMMENDED)

The activities I use are mostly deductive, making the student think on the language instead of resorting to translation as a way of learning.

Classes can be through Zoom, Google Meet or Discord, at the student's preference.

Details

Face-to-face classes are more expensive because I need to print the material to be used.

There is also an extra travel fee to pay for transportation.

Online classes are cheaper because they consume less time, since I don't need to leave my house and the material can be shared digitally.
