About Sumantra
I started with paintings traditionally having a fine art background, then over a certain period of time my ideas propelled towards a deep concern for my native land and the changing landscapes of it. Over shifting my geographical location to the place where I was born, I started engaging in my local communities through various mediums as a reciprocal exchange which was realized as an extension & a condensed form of my practice from the journey I walked. My works often deals with memories, cognition, consciousness, physical & psychological inputs, behavioral patterns, consumptions, rituals, transformational learning, energy and sufferings in relation to memories. Presently, I relook at my practice through developing a perspective on ecological concerns condensed from my journey of nurturing personal memories of displacement. I research on rooted connection to behavioral & psychological transformations in the time of present socio-ecological situations. Through my classes, I aim to explore new possibilities with the individual co learner in the realm of practicing art.

I believe in co-learning and my classes are open ended. Unlimited range of disciplines are always in my focus to bring into the methodolgy to enhance the creative thinking in my students during the process of learning. Reciprocal exchange is one of my major priority in my art teaching.
