About Effie
The crisp sound of a steel string vibrating under a fresh set of chords anchors my teaching philosophy. Tuning and maintenance are the first things I cover to ensure your instrument remains ready for practice.
My 13 years of performance experience at the Royal Northern College of Music influence how I approach rhythm and melody. Learning lead guitar requires patience and a solid grip on blues progressions.
We tackle chord transitions until your fingers move naturally across the fretboard. Music theory makes songwriting feel much more accessible for beginners. Reading tabs provides a quick path towards playing your favourite tracks. Practising strumming patterns is genuinely fun when you hear the rhythm lock into place.

Beginning our first session involves a deep dive into your current musical tastes and specific technical goals regarding your guitar playing. Having taught 372 students, I understand exactly how to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and the physical act of playing a complex piece. My MMus Voice degree from the Royal Northern College of Music informs my ear for timing and harmonic structure during our weekly sessions. I provide a monthly recorded review of progress so you can hear your own growth over time as you tackle new skills.
This system allows us to track your development against your initial goals to ensure we remain on the right path for your specific aspirations. Having spent 13 years performing professionally, I maintain a high standard for clarity and technical accuracy in every single exercise we complete together.
