About Henry
My name is Henry, I am 25 years old and I absolutely love maths and physics. But this was not always the case, in school I initially struggled with maths in particular. However, I was extremely fortunate to be given a teacher who recognized my ability to problem solve, and was willing to help me develop an approach to maths in a way that complimented my creativity. This led to a great improvement in my grades and my confidence, and since then I've been eager to learn as much as I can, with the self assurance that I can always find a way to understand it in a way that makes sense to me.
Since going to university I've found that the foundation that my teacher gave me has been very successful, and I've since acquired three degrees and progressed to the forefront of current research. My dream is make a career in research, but along the way I want to pay forward the gift that my teacher gave to me. Even if none of my students fall in love with the subject the way I did, I want all of them to find the self belief that mathematics and physics are tools that they can use to their advantage, and are not things they need to avoid. You don't need to be born good at it to become very good at maths and physics, I know this because I wasn't. I truly believe anyone can learn to do the things I've done, and however much you need to learn to get to where you want to go, it would be my pleasure to help you get there.

From early on in my education, teachers who took the time to help me develop my own creative approach to problem solving made the biggest impact on my progress. So that is the philosophy I want to pay forward.
I believe in learning solid fundamentals, and applying these to more complex problems in a structured and organized way. I want students to learn to be comfortable with making a lot of mistakes, and to recognize how they reflect their own style of problem solving. In time we can foster good habits that strengthen your intuition with understanding and experience.
I have tutored peers of mine on a casual basis throughout my academic career. I have significant experience in presenting and communicating physics and mathematics concepts to a range of audiences, from students to veteran academics, culminating in the publication and presentation of my own original research. Outside of academia I worked as a technical consultant in the finance sector, where I relied crucially on my ability to establish clear communication between professionals of various backgrounds.
I am offering 1:1 online sessions in 1-hour slots, for assistance with homework, exam preparation, or for focused assistance with curriculum work.
