About Niamh
I’m a singer-songwriter, guitarist, and cellist with a diverse background in both contemporary pop and traditional Scottish music. My musical journey includes professional studio experience, live performances, and leading a band. I’ve had the privilege of studying at the National Centre for Excellence in Traditional Music, which has broadened my understanding of different musical styles and techniques. I continue to perform regularly in renowned venues across Scotland, and also enjoy performing solo at various functions and events. With a passion for both creating and sharing music, I bring a versatile and dynamic approach to my songwriting and teaching.

In my songwriting lessons, we’ll cover all aspects of the craft: lyric writing, creating chord progressions, composing melodies, and exploring performance techniques. These areas are essential for developing a well-rounded approach to songwriting, and we’ll look at both recording and live performance, as these skills are deeply intertwined with the songwriting process. Through a variety of songwriting techniques, we’ll experiment and discover what methods work best for you. Songwriting is a multi-faceted skill, and my goal is to find the approaches that align with your personal style and needs. I believe in a holistic approach to development—if you feel that certain areas, like vocal or instrumental technique, are holding you back, I can help you improve those as well. Ultimately, my aim is to support you in discovering your full potential as a songwriter, helping you gain the confidence to express your unique voice, whether in the studio or on stage.
