About Hugh

I am currently studying at the LSE to obtain my MSc degree in Operations Research and Analytics. I moved from the U.S. in September, so am still fairly new to London, but have already been attending open jams around the city to get into the music scene.

I have been the lead guitarist and vocalist for a number of bands, from covering the Grateful Dead to Metallica to The Strokes, and more. I write and produce my own music which I have released on all major streaming platforms. My genre is alt/indie experimental-ish rock. Kind of a mash-up.

If you want an introduction to improvisation, production, and/or guitar in general, I'm your guy!

About the lesson

I recently graduated from Hamilton College with a BA in Music, having played lead guitar in multiple bands and writing, recording, and producing my own music released on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and more. I am excited to share my knowledge of the guitar with you!

My focus is on blues, rock, jazz, folk, and acoustic singer/songwriter genres. I can teach you the fundamentals of musical improvisation, scales, chord shapes, fingerpicking techniques, individual songs, and more!

I am a firm believer in learning to play by ear. My go-to technique will be call and response, not reading sheet music. If you want to get into your local jam scene, this is the place to start!
