About Callum
I began learning the piano at the age of 7, first under my grandmother's tutelage and then from my teacher who I would stay with until I was 18 years old. I progressed very quickly through the grades of piano and attained my grade 8. During these 11 years spent learning the piano, I regularly played with the school choir and various projects around my school that required piano accompaniment. Alongside the piano, I learned the tuba and when it came to university, I chose to study Musical Performance at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS) focusing on the tuba. During my time at the RCS, I attended seminars and lectures on teaching methods not just for piano or tuba, but as a wider concept. When I went into my third year, and I could choose my own subjects of study, I opted for further teaching methodology. After graduating the RCS, I moved to Hannover, Germany to study at the Hochschule für Musik, Theatre und Median Hannover (HMTMH). Eager to push my limits, I took on pupils almost as soon as I landed in Germany. At first, a grade 2 piano pupil, and grade 3 trombone pupil. During my 4 years spent in Germany, I went on to gain many more pupils teaching piano and various brass instruments. Teaching in a different language was an entirely new challenge, but one that I approached with great zeal. Now in London, I freelance with the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and many others, and I am passionate about sharing my passion for music with my students.

My lessons are tailored to each individual's needs and wants. For young children, I like to play musical games with them that help to reinforce good technique whilst keeping the lessons fun. For more advanced players, I get into the nitty-gritty details of pieces and techniques. Lesson lengths range from 30 mins to 1 hour. I am a graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and Hochschule Für Musik Theatre und Medien Hannover. I freelance regularly with the leading orchestras around the UK and have been teaching privately for 7 years. I can teach from beginners starting their musical journey up to pupils sitting their Grade 8 piano exam as well as Grade 5 Music Theory.
