I give lessons up to grade 5 standard, although I am willing to discuss other circumstances. I like to give the students the chance to be able to decide what they would like to get out of their instrumental education and therefore I would discuss with them what they want to play. I have a very methodical teaching method of giving the student the knowledge that makes them enjoy and want to play their instrument.
I am a 3rd year music student at Goldsmiths University in London, studying flute performance amongst other modules. I have been teaching for a year, but have been playing the flute for 13 years and have done countless performances in that time. I am currently studying performance with the aim of doing a Masters in contemporary performance, although I have come from a classical background.
Katherine has always been passionate for music and studies, as well as everything she does extracurricular. Her technical competence is continuously developing, thanks to an education in IT until the age of 16 as well as teaching herself a lot of different applications including Logic and Photoshop. Her self-motivation and drive allow her to be flexible and adapt under pressure, as well as letting her undertake complex tasks and delivering good quality results. Katie enjoys working collaboratively, shown through her interest in music, and she enjoys organising and coordinating complex tasks, events and concerts. I am also an editor, editing voluntarily for people using Adobe Premiere Pro, as well as being in the process of starting up my own YouTube channel.
Katherine joined her first choir aged 5 and began playing flute aged 6. Since picking up the flute, Katie has worked her way through grades, up to grade 8, which she completed in 2017. As well as this, Katie has progressed through choirs, starting at her primary school, up to now, where she is part of the Goldsmiths Chamber Choir. Katie’s experience with both singing and flute have let her travel, especially with the Romsey Youth Choir, to places like Austria, Italy, France and Romania. Since coming to university, Katie has been involved in many projects, including being part of the Outline Ensemble playing Treatise by Cornelius Cardew, which was part of a large-scale project. As well as being part of the Goldsmiths Sinfonia, Katie has been able to play at various venues around London and the UK, including Bishopsgate Institute, where she was able to accompany a concert by Mira Benjamin. Katie’s enjoyment and passion for music has let her be a part of many projects, as well as composing for various people, including a piece that will be played as part of a final year recital this year.
