About Theo
I have been working at a professional level since a very young age, having been a chorister at St Paul's Cathedral in London from the age of 7 to 13. This experience has given me a professionalism and work ethic that I value very highly as a 20-year-old, especially in mentoring and supporting young musicians both practically and academically. As a chorister, and as a mentor at school and now at university, passion in helping others to advance their skill and improve themselves has always been part of how I work. My professional engagements as a performer are no exception. As an experienced academical clerk in the choir of New College, Oxford, I am able to fulfil the expectations of the highest standards of both performing and supporting those I work with. Both being a teacher and a learner have inspired me to support people in a way that is both informative and fulfilling.

Although we nearly always find ourselves learning through patterns- mark schemes, exam board syllabuses, set works/texts- Music is a subject where teachers and learners must not lose sight of individual creativity. I believe very strongly that holding individuality and creative choice at the centre of a learning experience is key. Whilst patterns are important for passing through education, my approach to this will always be a personal, creative one, so that the experience of music to be personally fulfilling.
With this in mind, a lesson, support or interview prep session of 45 minutes to an hour will always be centred around an individual's creative response to a task. This will be based on the level at which the learner is working and in what field they would like to learn in (e.g. music theory, GCSE and A-Level set works). I have had experience learning in these levels, as well as mentoring both in school and at university, and have found that the creative approach is one that not only brings good quantitative results, but also encourages a learner to take the subject forward in a way that is meaningful to them.
