About Freya
Hi, I'm Freya! I’m a second-year Music BA student at the University of Leeds, and music has always been the centre of my world. From performing and playing instruments to composing and analysing music, I have always been fascinated by how music can communicate ideas, emotions, and stories.
I have been playing piano for over 10 years and have a strong passion for both performance and composition. My long-term goal is to become a composer, and I love exploring the creative side of music alongside the technical foundations that make it work.
Before university, I studied GCSE and A Level Music, giving me a strong understanding of music theory, harmony, notation, analysis, and exam preparation. Having recently experienced these qualifications myself, I understand the importance of making theory clear, approachable, and enjoyable for students.
I am passionate about helping others discover the same excitement I feel for music. I believe music theory is not just about memorising rules, but about understanding the building blocks behind the music we love and using that knowledge creatively.
Whether you are preparing for an exam, learning the basics, or wanting to improve your confidence, I aim to create a friendly and supportive environment where you can develop your skills at your own pace.
Alongside my studies, I continue to develop my own musicianship through composing, performing, and exploring different styles of music. I love sharing my knowledge and enthusiasm with others and helping students realise their own musical potential.

My lessons are designed to be completely personalised, supportive, and adapted to each student's individual goals, whether you are preparing for an exam, improving your understanding of music theory, or simply wanting to become more confident with the subject.
I offer one-to-one Zoom lessons where we can work through topics at your own pace, with clear explanations, examples, and practical activities to help make theory easier to understand. Alongside our sessions, I provide personalised worksheets and resources to help reinforce learning and give you extra opportunities to practise independently.
I believe that asking questions is one of the best ways to learn, so I encourage students to contact me between lessons if they need clarification, advice, or help with a tricky concept. I want lessons to feel like a supportive learning environment rather than just another class.
For students working towards exams, I provide structured preparation including practice questions, exam-style exercises, and questions inspired by ABRSM and Trinity exam formats. I can help you develop skills in areas such as notation, harmony, composition techniques, musical terminology, analysis, and aural understanding.
I also offer specialist revision sessions close to exam periods, including focused one-to-one lessons the day before an exam. These sessions can be tailored to your specific needs, helping you review key topics, practise answering questions, and feel more confident going into your assessment.
As a current Music BA student at the University of Leeds, I can also offer guidance and advice about studying music at university, including applications, auditions, choosing courses, and what to expect from a music degree. While I teach music theory up to A Level standard, I am happy to share my experiences and provide advice for students interested in continuing music education beyond school.
My aim is to make music theory feel approachable, enjoyable, and achievable for every student, regardless of their current ability or confidence level.
