About William
Hello. I have had a long and varied career in music, from medieval to modern, and from Shakespeare to Shakira.
I have great practical experience as a classical musician, having toured the world, made award-winning recordings, and played on major film soundtracks. Academically I have written academic journal and book chapters, and undertaken doctoral research. I have composed and arranged for many films, tv, and theatre projects.
As a teacher, I am used to teaching individuals and classes in music performance, history, and instrumental technique. I teach at the Royal College of Music.
I therefore can bring all this considerable breadth of experience to teaching, meaning that I can focus on details and specifics, whilst maintaining a broad view of the subject in question.

I have over 30 years' experience as a performer, teacher, and composer. I have played on major film soundtracks and composed for Oscar-winning films. I teach at the Royal College of Music and am a visiting tutor at Cambridge University and the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. I have taught summer schools and residential courses for students and adults for over thirty years.
Students can expect lessons to be practical in nature for instrumentalists grades 5-8 and diploma, or tailored to suit the academic needs of each individual. I can guide students through exam technique and essay structure, as well as help with overall appreciation and context for all their studies. GCSE, A level and undergraduate levels are all catered for.
An initial lesson is intended to get to know the student, and what it is that they feel is most important for them to gain from the sessions. Thereafter a framework can be devised to help with the areas that require attention. Lesson length can be flexible depending on the needs of the individual, and can last from 30 minutes up to an hour. Lessons are always intended to be thorough and focus on detail, whilst retaining the joy of such a wonderful and diverse subject as music.
