About Olivia
Hi! My name is Liv and I am a music theory and singing teacher.
About me:
I'm a recent graduate from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland where I studied a master's in Musical Theatre.
Before moving to Glasgow last year, I read Music at the University of Bristol, when I first began private tutoring in music theory and singing, helping children and adults pass the ABRSM and Trinity grading system. Whilst at university, I specialised in vocal studies and music direction. I was a member of a wide variety of groups, from church choirs to rock bands- I love all types of music! I play piano, guitar, bass and clarinet, and have composed for and conducted orchestras and ensembles.
Whilst studying, I also worked part time as a vocal coach and pianist at a musical theatre school, alongside West End performers.
Since graduation, I taught music full time at Rugby boarding school. I taught a combination of classroom GCSE and A-Level music, to 1-2-1 tutoring, to rock band tuition.
My method of teaching:
I believe the most effective way of teaching is learning what suits the individual student; one size does not fit all. Finding a way to transform what seems like a big intimidating task into small achievable goals, is really important for student motivation and interest in the subject. What excites me about teaching music is there is of course the pen-to-paper exams like every other subject, but there is so much more to constantly explore! What can seem like non-relatable analytical theory is actually just as prevalent in today's music as it was 1000 years ago.
